The PMP Test Has Moved Online And Here’s All That Has Changed

Are you planning to get PMP Certified? Have you completed the mandatory 35 hours of PMP training? Are you ready for the exam? If the answers to all these questions are ‘yes’ then you are on the right path.

However, there is one major change. As the world stays inside to #StopTheSpread of CoronaVirus, PMI has moved the PMP Certification exam to the online space.

What does it mean for someone taking the test?

• There is no fixed venue or schedule for appearing for the test.
• The exam can be taken at your convenient time, 24/7 however it needs to be scheduled ahead in time.
• You also require a computer with a webcam and microphone, a Reliable internet connection and a quiet space where you can spend a few uninterrupted hours.

What does not change

The online exam is exactly the same as the version administered at a test center: the same quality, the same questions, and there’s even a live proctor.

The online test from your own space should come as a great relief for aspirants who were ready to take the exam, the online format certainly comes with its benefits like, no need to commute, and taking the exam at the time of your own choosing.

Here’s a look at how the new test pattern works.

You will be monitored

Once you begin testing, you will not be able to leave the room or move out of the view of the Proctor. If you do not follow the Online Proctored Policies or are suspected of cheating or tampering with Pearson VUE’s or its subcontractor’s software, or if a third party is detected in the physical room where you are seated during the exam, the exam is immediately terminated and this is reported to Pearson VUE and PMI – Project Management Institute, along with audio and/or video evidence of the infraction.

Whiteboard

In the testing software, you will find an option called ‘whiteboard’ for taking notes and drawing shapes. Whiteboard is an alternative to pen and paper which were provided earlier in the exam centers, you can use the whiteboard if you need to.

5 Minutes Tutorial

Before the exam begins you will be given a 5 minutes tutorial to understand the functions of the test system, like the review options, calculator, etc. These 5 minutes do not add up in the exam time. It’s recommended you utilize this time to acclimatize with the software.

The 10 Minutes Break

For PMP exams there is a built-in 10-minute break now. This break acts as a divider between two sessions. However, you will not be able to return to the first section once you take the 10-minute break. The rules are very strict and if candidates do not return to the room after a 10-minute break, the exam session will be terminated. This break is to be utilized wisely.

Work-Area Scan

During the check-in, the Proctor will ask to see your environment to ensure you have a clean desktop and you are not within arm’s reach of books, notepads, post-it notes, papers, pens, pencils, or other writing instruments/ objects.

System Requirement

A genuine Windows 8.1 or above. Mac OS 10.13 or above. No other OS will be allowed. Pop-ups should not be blocked and firewalls must be disabled for the duration of the test. Cookies have to be enabled. Note: disable any firewall and verify the webcam and the microphone work properly ahead in time.

System Test

Perform a system test to download the OnVUE online proctoring software in advance to ensure that your system will work with the software.

Technical Glitch?

If there is a technical software issue during exam delivery, the Proctor will contact you via phone or through chat/ VoIP using the PVProctor software. If there is an issue after exam delivery, please contact Pearson VUE and have the Case Report number provided by your Proctor available.

Identification

Keep a government-issued ID with the same name as in the PMP application handy.

Scheduling and Rescheduling

Exams can be scheduled online and the exam appointments are offered every day of the week. In case you had already scheduled your exam and you want to reschedule it, log into your online Pearson VUE account and cancel your existing exam date. You can schedule a new exam date choosing the online proctored testing option.

Points to note before you schedule a test

This is a long list of requirements and do’s and don’ts for the test and we need to be attentive and stay prepared as per the policies to have an uninterrupted test.
